Jay Williams Live in Galveston + New Song “She Picked a Horse”

Hi Everyone,

I have a great listening opportunity for you coming up in Galveston.

In one week, on Sunday afternoon, March 2, I will be playing for a couple of hours at the new Indies Coffee Bar and Speakeasy.

Here’s a possible plan…

  1. Have brunch at The Sunflower Café on 14th Street.
  2. Take a ride on the Boliver Ferry.  If you park (to the right on Ferry Road) and walk on, you can enjoy a round trip in about 1½ to 2 hours and see bottlenose dolphin, pelicans, and the partially sunken remains of the WWI era concrete ship the SS Selma.
  3. Then, make your way to Indies Coffee Bar for an afternoon of live music.

  • Sunday, March 2, 3:00 – 5:00.
  • Indies Coffee Bar, 1813 61st Street, Galveston.
  • Free Music by Jay Williams.  (Tip Jar Available)

And…

I’ve got my next release coming out this week!

She Picked a Horse” is a song about a wonderful woman by the name of Carol Light.  She is an artist, a mentor, a teacher, and an amazing person.

She has stated many times that she is really a 12-year-old cowgirl…and she has a photo to prove it!

I was given a copy of a photograph of Carol on horseback in Zilker Park circa 1942, when she was 12 years old.

The photo sat on my desk for several months and then this song arrived.

I hope you will enjoy.

Thanks,

Jay Williams

Happy Memorial Day / New Single Release: “Did She Ever Mention My Name?”

This Memorial Day, as we honor the brave men and women who have served our country, I am excited to share a special new song with you. My latest single, “Did She Ever Mention My Name?”, is now available on all major streaming platforms.

The inspiration for this song came from a heartfelt story that touched me deeply. In the spring of 2015, a 90-year old veteran from Missouri reached out to Betty, the daughter of a woman he had known during the summer of 1945. As a young serviceman stationed in Hobbs, New Mexico, he shared a brief but magical romance with Betty's mother, then just 17 years old. The end of World World II saw many such fleeting yet impactful relationships as millions of servicemen and women returned home, often parting ways forever.

Seventy years later, with both his wife and Betty's mother having passed away, the veteran felt a deep yearning to reconnect with a cherished memory from his youth. In a heartfelt phone call, he asked Betty about her mother and requested a photo. His voice carried the weight of decades as he inquired, “Did she ever mention my name?”

These words encapsulated a lifetime of emotions and became the inspiration for “Did She Ever Mention My Name?” The song captures the longing to revisit a treasured past and the universal desire to reconnect with moments of profound significance.

As a native Texan, I have always found inspiration in the rich storytelling traditions of America's folk music, or as we call it now, Americana. This song is a tribute not only to the love story of two individuals but also to the countless personal histories shaped by service and sacrifice.

I hope you will take a moment to listen to “Did She Ever Mention My Name?” and let it remind you of the enduring power of love and memory. Follow this link to select your preferred streaming platform:

Thank you for your continued support, and I wish you a meaningful Memorial Day.

Warm regards,

Navigating New Horizons: The Bolivar Roads Songs

Jay Williams is charting a new course in his musical journey, and the world of folk music is in for an extraordinary treat. Currently, he finds himself ensconced in the recording studio, diligently crafting a treasure trove of upcoming releases that are set to grace our ears over the next year. These releases bear the banner of 'The Bolivar Roads Songs,' a collection of fresh and evocative material that derives its name from the historic ship channel that unites the vast expanse of the Gulf of Mexico with the diverse ecology of Galveston Bay.

Just as the Bolivar Roads channel serves as a vital connection between two worlds, Jay's new songs bridge the gap between the heartfelt traditions of folk music and a forward-thinking, contemporary sound. With lyrical narratives that are as compelling as ever and melodies that tug at the strings of your soul, these upcoming releases promise to be a musical journey that you won't want to miss. Much like the wind that guided Jay during his formative years on the sailboat, these songs will whisk you away on a voyage filled with storytelling, nature's wonders, and the boundless creativity of an artist who continues to capture the essence of life's rich tapestry in every note and verse.
